If your truck is registered for 26,001 pounds or more, you need to be a part of a random drug test program. You will also need a pre-employment drug screen, even if you own your own company. There are companies like "The Transportation Adviser" that can put you into a consortium. This pools alot of owner operators in a random drug test pool that will be in compliance with the FMCSA. They charge $129.00 a year, plus $65.00 per test.
If you are going to run under 26,000 lbs., you dont need to be involved in a consortium.

There are many drug testing facilities out there to choose from and I went with the one O.O.I.D.A. offers. The vendor was CMCI out of MO. Testing was $100 annually and a one time $50 fee for your pre-employment test. I think the $100 covers up to four random tests per year and I have never been called in for more than two in a calendar year.
The testing will be in your locale, though you have to be a member of O.O.I.D.A. which is $45 annually, but they run specials for $25 occaissionally.
